My Profile

Life does not always give us what we are expecting and can bring many challenges that make us question our ability to handle the pain. When Debbie’s oldest son, Alex, was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder at age seventeen after being hospitalized for nearly a month and then became addicted to drugs and alcohol, she wasn’t prepared for how to deal with what she would be up against over the next nine years and the fear, anxiety, and grief she would experience. read more

Sometimes the unknown is the hardest. Not having that certainty as to what is happening or what will happen.

One of the biggest things that makes the unknown so difficult is wanting life to unfold according to your plan.

Having a teen or adult child with mental illness or addiction brings with it a lot of unknowns. A lot of uncertainty as to how things are going. And for many, this means lots of worry and fear.

I understand how you feel, as I have been here too. Many times. It can feel so hard to not be sure of what will happen.

But living in fear will not help you or your child or the outcome. In fact, it will do the opposite because it will make you sick physically and emotionally.

Consciously choosing faith over fear can free your mind and allow you to focus on your love for your child. And prevent fears from taking over your life.

You cannot serve both faith and fear. But you do have a choice to focus on fear and feel miserable or focus on faith and love and feel more peace.

Faith can come from connection to a higher power, God, Angels, the universe, source energy.

Whatever brings you faith, connect with that now.

Sending love and light,

Debbie

“Debbie Gail Zane has written a beautiful tribute to her son that will resonate with caregivers in similar situations. Whether readers are trying to help their suffering children or grieving over their treasured ones, her book will serve as a warm reminder that they are not alone. It’s difficult to watch once happy children and teens suffer from the effects of a mental illness or addiction, and Zane speaks about the grief of losing the hopes and dreams that they may have held for them. The author relives her pain and uncertainty but communicates hope and understanding to anyone in a similar situation. Finding Peace and Purpose Amidst the Tears is a great choice for anyone trying to help someone battle a mental health issue or who has lost a child to addiction.”

“Finding Peace and Purpose Amidst the Tears by Debbie Gail Zane is heartbreaking and inspiring. I respect Debbie for her courage in sharing this story so soon after her child passed away to support other parents who are going through a similar situation. The nine years covered in this book are filled with heartache, hardship, persistence, and grief. After reading Debbie’s experience, anyone who questions the seriousness of mental illness or doesn’t think that it is a medical disease will change their opinion. I recommend this moving story to any parent who has lost a child or is battling with their child because of a mental illness or addiction.”
